Sue Wallace-Shaddad’s “Once There Was Colour” is a moving pamphlet of poems which looks at how the current crisis in Sudan is affecting the poet and her family. Filled with evocative images of Sudan during ‘better times’, Sue’s poems take you to joyful weddings, sunsets on the Nile, and family members sharing fragrant cups of tea and coffee. Her writing contrasts the bright hopefulness of these ordinary celebrations with the disarray of political turmoil and the need to flee.
Guest poets include Florence Cox, Fran Reader and Jan Armstrong
