Take Three Poets

Friday 28th June 2024 7:30 pm

A chance to meet three local authors who have all published work  – Virginia Betts, Sophia Michaels & Antony Johae –  and enjoy some of their poetry.
Suzanne Hawkes will be asking some questions and the poets will be performing some of their work.
Antony Johae (b. 1937 Chiswick, Middlesex) has a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature – a study of Dostoevsky and Kafka. He has taught at the University of Essex and in Germany, Ghana, Tunisia and Kuwait. He retired in 2009 and now divides his time between Colchester and Lebanon (his wife’s country of origin).
Quiet and good natured, Sophia Michaels’s humble upbringing deep in the Suffolk countryside shaped a steely determination to encourage others and make a difference. Many people are living in the self-made prisons of their own fears and don’t have to.
Like most of us Sophia has faced many setbacks and each time has picked herself up and persevered, something that shines through in her many ‘gifts,’ her singing, her art or radio presence, but most of all, her poetry
Virginia Betts is hugley prolific – at any time working on at least three books while teaching and performing.  She has a diverse way of looking at the world and her work reflects this.
