The Matt Carter Octet is one of the most exciting young bands on today’s jazz scene. They’re on an album launch tour of the UK, and will be bringing music from their new album Read Between the Lines to Two Sisters Arts Centre for one night only! The album was recorded at Livingstone Studios in north London in 2022, after a successful UK wide tour last summer. Now completed, they’ll play all ten tracks in their entirety as well as other material from their expanding repertoire.
Matt himself is very familiar to East Anglia audiences, having played at Norwich Jazz club and Lowestoft Jazz Club. He cut his teeth as a player in and around his home in Devon before leaving for the Royal Academy of Music in London. There, he met many of his current band members.
He’s spent his time working as a pianist, but also as a composer and writer, with many arrangements and compositions to his credit.
His writing has been compared to Marty Paich, and he is heavily influenced by US west coast jazz from the 50’s and 60’s. So, his compositions are peppered with swinging dynamic solo section, shape of British jazz to come!
